JNU is Hiring Scholars for Multiple ICSSR Projects (Salary up to ₹47,000/Month)

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the temporary and co-terminus positions of Research Associate, Research Assistant, and Field Investigators across three ICSSR-funded Major Research Projects related to History, Cultural Studies, and Anthropology.


PROJECT 1: “Contextualizing The Sacred Amarnath Yatra & Asceticism in Colonial North India: A Historical Study of Collective Memories and Spiritual Consciousness (1846–1947)”


  • Host Centre: Centre for Historical Studies.

  • Research Assistant (01 Post): Requires a Postgraduate degree in History (minimum 55%) with NET, and a demonstrated ability/willingness to undertake field surveys and archival collection in Jammu & Kashmir.


    Duration is one year (extendable) with a remuneration of Rs. 37,000/- per month.

  • Field Investigator (01 Post): Requires a Postgraduate degree in History or any Social Science discipline (minimum 55%), along with the ability to undertake field surveys and archival collection in J&K.

    Duration is six months (extendable) with a remuneration of Rs. 20,000/- per month.

PROJECT 2: “Cultural, Spiritual, Social, and Philosophical Significance of Vāhanas in Indian Temples: A Comprehensive Study in the Context of Hinduism”

  • Host Centre: Centre for Women's Studies / Centre for the Study of Social Systems.

  • Research Assistant (01 Post): Desirable qualification includes a Ph.D. in Women's Studies or History, and proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi.


    Duration is 12 months (extendable) with a remuneration of ₹37,000/- per month.

  • Field Investigators (02 Posts): Desirable qualification is a Postgraduate degree in any Social Sciences discipline (minimum 55%) and proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English and Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, or Kannada.


    Duration is 6 months (extendable) with a remuneration of ₹20,000/- per month.

PROJECT 3: “Knowledge Tradition and Cultural Practices: A Study on Five Tribal Communities of Assam”

Host Centre: Centre for the Study of Social Systems.
  • Research Associate (01 Post): Desirable qualification is a Ph.D. in Sociology or Anthropology along with proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Assamese.

    Duration is one year (extendable) with a remuneration of ₹47,000/- per month.

  • Field Investigators (02 Posts): Desirable qualification is a Postgraduate degree in any Social Science discipline (minimum 55%), along with proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Assamese. Duration is six months (extendable).

Applications are invited for the following temporary/contractual posts to work on an ICSSR-funded major research project titled: “Students Movements in India’s Neighbouring Countries”. Post: Research Associate (01)Renumeration: Rs. 47,000/ month Qualifications: Postgraduate with a minimum of 55% marks in any one of the mentioned disciplines: Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, History, Economics, Management and Law or any social science discipline.-  Ph.D is essential.-  Prior research experience.

Post: Research Assistant (01) Renumeration: Rs. 37,000/month Qualification: Postgraduate in any social science discipline with a minimum of 55% marks.

Note: Remuneration as per the ICSSR Guidelines.
