National Testing Agency Invites Applications for 16 Young Professional Posts Through Pratibha Setu Portal: An opportunity for Researchers and UPSC Aspirants

New Delhi, 25 July 2026, The National Testing Agency (NTA), has invited applications for 16 Young Professional (YP) positions on a contract basis. The engagement will be done through the Pratibha Setu Portal of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), and applications will remain open for 30 days from the date of publication of the notification.

The posts span three functional streams within NTA: Academic Research, Legal Research, and Finance and Accounts Research for strengthening the agency's internal research, legal, and financial capacity.

About the National Testing Agency

The National Testing Agency was established in November 2017 as an autonomous body under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, to conduct entrance and fellowship examinations for admission to higher educational institutions across the country.


NTA conducts several of the country's most significant entrance examinations, including JEE (Main), NEET-UG, the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), and UGC-NET, serving several lakh candidates annually. Following recommendations made by a High-Level Committee of Experts chaired by Prof. K. Radhakrishnan, NTA is currently undertaking a broader rebuild of its academic, technology, security, and research functions. The engagement of Young Professionals through the Pratibha Setu portal has been announced as part of this initiative.

According to the notification, the 16 posts are distributed as follows:

Selected candidates will work closely with NTA’s subject experts and officers, contributing to research, policy development, and institutional strengthening

 

What Will Young Professionals Do?

The responsibilities vary according to the stream:


  • Academic Research

Young Professionals in this stream will assist in:

  1. Researching examination syllabi and assessment trends.

  2. Analysing candidate performance across subjects, regions, and demographic groups.

  3. Supporting the development of question banks and assessment resources.

  4. Preparing literature reviews and comparative studies on testing systems.

  5. Drafting research briefs and analytical reports for NTA leadership.

The role offers significant exposure to educational research, psychometrics, examination policy, and academic administration.


  • Legal Research

Responsibilities include:

  1. Conducting legal research related to examinations and candidate grievances.

  2. Assisting in drafting affidavits, legal replies, and court documents.

  3. Preparing case-law summaries and legal briefing notes.

  4. Supporting regulatory compliance and contract review.

This position is particularly suitable for candidates interested in education law and public administration.


  • Finance and Accounts Research

Selected professionals will contribute to:

  1. Budget planning and financial analysis.

  2. Revenue and expenditure assessments.

  3. Audit support.

  4. Procurement and financial compliance under Government financial rules.

The position provides practical exposure to financial management within a national public institution.

 

Eligibility

Applications will be considered only from candidates registered on the Pratibha Setu portal who meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Research: Candidates who have appeared in the Civil Services Examination, hold a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject area (or a CSE optional subject aligned to it), with preference given to candidates holding a Phd and prior research, teaching, or assessment experience.


  • Legal Research: Candidates who have appeared in the Civil Services Examination with Law as an optional subject, hold an LLM from a recognised university, with prior legal research or litigation experience preferred.


  • Finance and Accounts Research: Candidates who have appeared in the Civil Services Examination, hold a postgraduate degree in Commerce, Economics, or Finance, or a professional qualification such as CA, CMA, or CS, with prior experience in financial analysis, audit, or accounts preferred.


Candidates must also meet the age limit prescribed under the Pratibha Setu portal.

 

Terms of Engagement & Renumeration

The engagement will be for an initial period of 24 months, extendable by a further 12 months based on performance and organisational requirement. Selected candidates will receive a fixed, all-inclusive consolidated remuneration of Rs. 80,000 per month, with the role based out of NTA's premises in Delhi. The engagement is contractual in nature and does not confer any right to regularisation or a claim to a permanent government post. Either party may terminate the engagement with 30 days' written notice.

Place of work

NTA premises in Delhi. Occasional travel within India may be required in connection with the assigned work; travel will be reimbursed as per NTA norms.

Leave

Eight days of leave per year on a pro-rata basis. Public holidays as observed by NTA. No entitlement to any other form of leave, allowance or benefit.

Working Hours

Full-time engagement, five days a week, aligned with NTA office hours. During examination cycles and other peak periods, extended hours or weekend work may be required.

Nature of Engagement

This is a contractual engagement for a defined period. It does not create any right to regularisation, permanent absorption, or any claim to a Government post.

Termination

Either side may terminate the engagement on 30 days' written notice. NTA may terminate without notice for unsatisfactory performance, misconduct, breach of confidentiality, or breach of the terms of engagement.

Each YP will sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement at the time of joining. All information accessed in the course of work is confidential. Breach of confidentiality is grounds for immediate termination and further action as advised.

Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview, which may be conducted in person or through video-conference, assessing academic and analytical capability, understanding of NTA's work, and motivation for the role. NTA has reserved the right to conduct a written test or task-based assessment as part of the selection process.
