The Delhi government has established two new research fellowship programs dedicated to the scientific preservation and study of the city's extensive archaeological and archival history. These initiatives, the archives research fellowship and the archaeology research fellowship, provide annual positions for experts to engage in tasks such as digitizing historical records, managing manuscripts, and conserving lesser-known monuments. Participants will receive a monthly stipend ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 to support their one-year terms. According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the primary goal is to protect Delhi's cultural legacy and make historical data more reachable for future generations. By funding these roles, the government intends to build a professional workforce specialized in heritage conservation and evidence-based historical research. Detailed operational guidelines regarding eligibility and selection will be released by the relevant departments in the near future.
Nearly 27 fellows will receive a monthly fellowship ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 for a year under the proposal, she said.
Who is eligible to apply for these heritage research programs?
The exact eligibility criteria for the newly announced heritage research programs have not been published yet, as detailed operational guidelines regarding eligibility, the application process, and selection procedures will be issued separately by the concerned departments before the programs are officially rolled out.
However, the sources indicate that the fellowships will generally be open to researchers, archivists, historians, conservation specialists, linguists, and heritage experts.
