Nalanda University and the Bihar Department of Tourism have announced a five-day Certificate Course on Heritage Tourism Management scheduled for July 2026. This intensive Management Development Programme is designed to equip tourism professionals, such as guides and operators, with advanced skills in heritage interpretation, marketing, and sustainable conservation. The curriculum blends academic modules on history and communication with hands-on experiences, including field visits to iconic sites like Bodh Gaya and Rajgir. Applicants must meet specific educational or professional criteria, and while the course is free for day scholars, a small fee applies to those requiring on-campus lodging. Successful participants who maintain perfect attendance and pass a final evaluation will receive a formal Certificate of Completion from the university.
Who is eligible to join this Course?
This course is open to a wide range of applicants, including tour guides, tour operators, homestay managers, and tourism professionals. It is primarily designed for those working across the Nalanda–Rajgir–Gaya–Bodh Gaya heritage circuit, but it also welcomes hospitality practitioners, museum personnel, heritage managers, students, researchers, and entrepreneurs from other regions and allied sectors.
To be eligible, applicants must satisfy one or more of the following criteria:
Be currently engaged in the tourism, hospitality, heritage, archaeology, museum, culture, or an allied sector.
Be registered or recognized by the Department of Tourism (Government of Bihar), India Tourism, or another recognized professional body or accreditation.
Hold a valid certification as a Tourist Guide, Heritage Guide, or Tour Operator issued by a competent authority.
Possess a minimum educational qualification of 10+2 or its equivalent. Graduates and postgraduates from any discipline are especially encouraged to apply.
Additionally, it is desirable for applicants to demonstrate a strong interest in cultural tourism, visitor management, heritage interpretation, or sustainable tourism practices.
While the program is open broadly, preference may be given to applicants actively involved in guiding, destination management, or tourism services within the local Nalanda–Rajgir–Gaya–Bodh Gaya circuit, with other applicants considered based on seat availability.

The fee structure for the Certificate Course on Heritage Tourism Management depends on your accommodation needs:
No course fee is charged for day scholars and in-house participants from the University.
A course fee of ₹2,500/- is required for participants who opt for on-campus accommodation and residence facilities.
This fee is inclusive of both food and lodging for the duration of the program.
