About the Heritage Walk:
This heritage walk explores the neighborhood of Tilakwadi which started taking shape in the early 20th century when the Independence movement was picking up and so was trade and building activity. The road names, the bungalow typologies, symbolic representation of political inclinations, and artists during the independence movement, were very much a part of the built fabric which contributes to the story of Tilakwadi. The walk explores people, buildings, and events leading to the country's independence.
About the Walk Guide:
Prajakta Deshpande is a practicing Conservation Architect based out of Belagavi, Karnataka (Belgaum). She graduated from KLS Gogte Institute of Technology, Belgaum, and further pursued her master's at the University of York in Conservation of Historic Buildings. She was a Charles Wallace India trust Scholar for 2018-19 and was selected for the International Exchange Program by the US ICOMOS in 2021 and was based in Florida for a brief period. Documenting and creating awareness around heritage in smaller towns and bringing patronage to the lesser-known heritage is her area of interest.
