New Delhi, 05 July, 2025: Heritage tourism in India is becoming popular; more and more people are interested to understand and experience India’s rich and diverse cultural history. Consequently, heritage monuments, which have survived the test of time, are becoming a popular destination for heritage enthusiasts and tourists.
Imagine you plan a visit to the legendary Taj Mahal, to understand the glorious marvel of medieval India. Or you go to visit the Sacred ensembles of the Hoysalas, recently added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. You get there, all excited and cameras ready to capture the intricacy and the grandeur of these iconic sites. And you are greeted with a long line of tourists and a longer waiting time. Such a buzzkill, isn’t it? ASI’s digital ticket system is here to save the day!
To encourage and facilitate heritage tourism, the Archaeological Survey of India, along with NDML (NSDL Database Management Limited) and Canara Bank has launched an initiative which allows a tourist to book online tickets and skip the line.
This initiative, to digitize the sector began in 2015, with the Taj Mahal in Agra and Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi, in collaboration with IRCTC. Today, all the 143 ticketed monuments protected under the 38 circles of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) offer e-ticketing.
